CHAN TOURNAMENT KICKS OFF WITH A CELEBRATION OF SINGELI MUSIC

Dar es Salaam, August 2 – The African Nations Championship (CHAN) has officially kicked off, bringing together national football teams from across Africa, composed solely of players active in their domestic leagues.

This year, Tanzania is proudly co-hosting the tournament alongside Kenya and Uganda, marking a major milestone in East African football collaboration. The opening match was held at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, where Tanzania faced off against Burkina Faso. The home team, Taifa Stars, secured a convincing 2-0 victory, much to the delight of local fans.

Following the match, the stadium transformed into a hub of cultural celebration with a historic music event titled CHAN Singeli Fest (CHANSINGELIFEST) — a festival dedicated to showcasing Singeli music, one of Tanzania’s most vibrant and energetic genres.

The festival featured electrifying performances by top Singeli artists, including:

Wamoto Muziki

And many more.

The event marked a significant moment where sports and culture united, placing Singeli music in the spotlight on a continental stage. The artists delivered high-energy performances that celebrated the unique identity and rhythm of Tanzania’s urban music scene.
